The doctor just called and said your second urine test came back negative (Yippee). We're stopping the antibiotics now. So basically you didn't have a bladder infection. What did you have then? This will remain a mystery won't it? I'm just happy you are feeling much better now. posted by anonymous

A Diagnosis
You were still sick on Friday so Daddy and I both stayed home and took you back to the doctor. We saw a wonderful Pediatrician (I am thinking of changing to have her as your primary doctor) who ran a full blood and urine culture on you. You really didn't enjoy having the needle in your arm or the urine bag taped on you, but it had to be done. In the end the preliminary results showed you had a virus and we were sent home.
Overnight into Saturday your fever broke and you finally started to get some relief. Or so I thought. Once your fever was gone you suddenly decided you didn't want to eat or sleep much. It was a very long sleepless weekend. I was so worried that you weren't getting enough fluids.
On Sunday you seemed better so we headed out to visit with your cousin Jacob who was in town from New Jersey. After breakfast with him and his family we went to Baba and Zaida's house to celebrate Daddy's birthday. You were so grumpy and not acting like yourself. I chalked it up to the fever wearing you out, lack of sleep, and teething. By late Sunday night your appetite and desire to sleep through the night (yay).
You went back to daycare on Monday and had a great day. You're behaviour was still slightly odd when we got home, but it's been a rough week so it didn't concern me. This morning you were so hungry on our drive to school that you cried for an hour (it took an hour and a half to get here today because of the transit strike) in the car. After I got to my office the doctor you saw on Friday called and said your urine test came back showing that you have a bladder infection.
This bladder infection would be the cause of the fever, loss of appetite, sleeplessness, and moodiness. Daddy is meeting us at the clinic tonight where we will have to have another urine sample drawn using a catheter. The doctor said that the bag method used last week doesn't produce as clean of a sample. Anyway, you'll be starting antibiotics tonight. My poor poor baby I feel so bad for you. I hope the medicine will help make you feel as good as new in no time.
Yesterday at 4pm I got a call from your daycare center saying you were running a 102 degree fever. I rushed you to the pediatrician where you had a 99 degree fever (thanks to half a dose of Tylenol they gave you at school) only to be given the "when you need to see a doctor and when you don't" speech. I was just so worried you might have an ear infection.
Apparently small children run higher temeratures than adults and I shouldn't be too concerned until it reaches 103.5 degrees. Regardless, she said that as long as you remain playful just give you baby Motrin to keep te fever down and it will go away on it's own. We came home from your appointment and you sucked down a bottle and took a nap.
Here is how our night went after your nap...
8:45pm - 103.3 temp. Gave you a dose of Advil
8:50pm - You threw up on both yourself and me
8:55pm - Bathtime
10:04pm - 100.8 temp. You threw up on my bed sheets
10:05pm - Guzzled down a 6oz bottle.
2:20am - 99.6 temp (I love the digital pacifier, you didn't even wake up)
6:15am - You were moaning in your sleep. 102.8 temp
6:20am - Gave you a dose of Advil and some "mommy loving"
6:25am - You are back to sleep
The long and short of it is that you are eating fine and sleeping fine. You just are running a fever.
Grandma and Grandpa are leaving for Florida tomorrow and offered to watch you for part of the day so I can go to work for a while. I may take them up on the offer and stay home with you tomorrow. I just want you to feel all better soon, it makes me sad that you are so hot and uncomfortable. Get well quick honey. posted by anonymous

A Weekend Of Firsts
- You went to your first wedding and partied 'til you dropped.
- You went to your first birthday party (your friend Jude from day care turned one).
- The birthday party also was your first trip to the park. I don't think you had ever been on grass before.
- You cut your first tooth on Saturday. I still can't see the tooth, but boy can you feel it. I understand why you have been so grumpy lately.
- You started rolling all over the place. Before now it was just from your back to belly, but you have discovered the ability to roll across the room. You also are able to turn yourself around if you don't like the view where you are lying.
- Daddy lowered the mattress on your crib. We woke up several days the past week to hear you playing with the toys on your mobile. Just seeing your crib lower down makes me realize how fast you really are growing.
I am so proud of you. You are growing into such a little man. I love you. posted by anonymous
