Got Peas?

You had your first taste of green peas tonight. I wish I had the camera handy because the look on your face was priceless. It was such a sour face, though you must have liked it because you ate 4 spoonfuls AFTER a big bowl of cereal. Geesh child you sure like to eat.

Daddy & I aren't thrilled about having to feed you jarred baby food, but with both of us working full time we just don't have the time to make our own at home. Since we had to compromise on the jarred stuff we opted to give you organic food. We figure if we're gonna do it we should get the stuff thats at lerast toxin free. The one thing we can't compromise on is jarred meat products. I think that is wrong on so many levels. You will be a vegetarian until you have teeth and can eat real pieces meat. I want you to learn to enjoy vegetables anyway so this will be a good experience.

Ole McCaleb Had A Farm

Today at daycare they had a travelling petting zoo stop by. I talked to your teacher and she said you cried when they tried to put you on a pony, but you really liked playing with a baby goat. I am so happy with all the wonderful activities your school has for you. Many of the things you are participating in now I didn't expect until years down the road. I say by your first birthday you will have surely seen quite a bit.

Back to how wonderful your school is. I just can't say enough. It costs a lot, but its well worth it. I don't know of any other center that has so much security. The facility and staff are top notch too. It is run by Bright Horizon and I am thrilled with their education by exploration philosophy. I hope you come away from your experience there a smart and happy boy.

Growing Up So Fast

This morning when Daddy went to give you your bottle you surprised us both by grabbing it and holding it yourself. You held it until you were finished and Daddy had to take it out of your mouth. How self sufficient you are becoming. Makes you old Mommy kinda sad. I'm happy to see you healthy and growing, but at the same time I want you to stay my little baby.

Four Month Check-up

Last Friday Grandma and I took you to the doctor for your four month check-up. You tipped the scale at 16 lbs 5.5 oz (double your birth weight) and you are 26.25 inches long. You are in the 90th percentile for weight and 80th percentile for height, very impressive.

I told the doctor that you had been eating 1 tablespoon of rice cereal once a day on weekends and she said we could move you up to 2 tbs twice daily. I brought a box of cereal to daycare and your teacher said you love eating it. I think at night we are going to give you 3 tbs to fill your tummy because you get hungry so easily. The doctor also said we can start you on green vegetables in a couple weeks if we want. I'm not crazy about the idea of jarred baby food, but given our lifestyle it is the best option. Daddy and I have decided to feed you only organic baby foods and none with meat products. You'll get your first sampling of meat when you have teeth and can chew it.

You had another round of shots at that appointment. The poked you three times and you were not a happy camper. Grandma gave you a bottle immediately after and that seemed to cheer you right up. Saturday you gave us a bit of a scare when you spike a 101.7 fever. Some Tylenol and a long nap later you were good as new.

Daddy and I both caught a nasty cold last week. I had to take two sick days from work because I felt so bad. Somehow (thankfully) you did not catch our cold. You must have a really strong immune system.

Not too much else is going on with us. I'm back into the swing of things at work and you are loving daycare. I love when your teacher calls to tell me what a pleasure you are to have in class. You did have an incident the other day when she was changing your diaper. For some reason you deicided mid diaper change was a good time to go pee pee. You went all over yourself and the classroom. Silly boy.

Sickness

Monday night daddy and I both came home from work not feeling well. It seems we have some sort of cold/flu. Yesterday I stayed home from work with you to try to rest and get this nasty thing out of my system. Problem is that being home with a baby is a fulltime job in itself so I didn't get much rest in. Actually I am resting more today at work than I did yesterday. I did enjoy having quality time just the two of us (daddy worked most of the day). I hope we can keep you healthy, a sick baby is the last thing we need right now. Keep your fingers crossed.

One Year Ago Today

Tonight it will be one year since we learned you were coming to join our family. So much has changed in the past 365 days. I now can't imagine my life without you in it. You make both Daddy & I proud every day with the amazing things you do.

You turned four months old on Saturday and to celebrate the occasion I put your high chair together. You look like such a big boy sitting in your chair eating your cereal.

This Friday you have a doctor appointment (more shots). Grandma is going to go with us. I can't wait to find out how big you are (height and weight). We just had to move you into size three diapers because you are such a big boy.

Well it has been a while

I just realized its been ages since my last post. I've been back at work nearly three weeks now and I think we are finally getting into a groove. Caleb is not a morning person and hates when I wake him up at 6:20 in the AM. He really likes weekends when he can go back to his 10 hour sleep schedule.

For the past two weekends little man has been eating a small bowl of rice cereal in the morning. He was showing interest in food and so far it seems to be agreeing with him. We're going to set up his high chair this weekend so he can eat his cereal like a big boy.

He is going to his four month check-up on July 18. At that appointment he'll get another set of shots (boo hoo) and we'll find out how much he weighs. He sure is a hefty fellow. We'll also find out then when we can start him on his first vegetables.

This coming Saturday will be Caleb's four month birthday. Where has the time gone? I watched the video of his birth last weekend and frankly that small baby is a distant memory. He is becoming such a big boy scooting himself across the floor and laughing all the time. He's even started to teethe which is going to be a challenge for all of us.

Its hard to believe that next Monday it will be one year since we learned that Caleb was on the way. Flash forward to today and we can't imagine life without him. Amazing how a year can change you.
